Students for Indigenous Rights and Environmental Justice (SIREJ) - 2019 : A University of Oregon registered student organization reporting to the Global Studies Department with faculty advisors Derrick Hindery, Jose Martinez, and Zulma Villegas. SIREJ is associated with the Global Engagement (GEO) service learning study abroad program, "Indigenous Rights and Environmental Justice in Bolivia". I am one of the founding member of SIREJ and one of the Student Leaders (2019-20 and 2020-21).
SIREJ is a volunteer student organization collaborating with indigenous peoples and organization on indigenous led projects that include sustainable community development, partnering on events that create space and a platform for indigenous voices, fundraising, and creating awareness related to indigenous rights and environmental justice. Many of my projects are related to the work I do for SIREJ in collaboration with the many volunteers that keep SIREJ alive. SIREJ exists because of the generosity of volunteers, support of donors, our several indigenous partners which include the Guarayos, Guaraní, Chiquitano, and Ayoreo indigenous communities in Bolivia, and faculty advisors from Oregon and Bolivia. To learn more about SIREJ and the work done by our amazing communities in collaboration with SIREJ volunteers please visit: SIREJ Bolivia. |
